From the recording The Word Is Love
Track 11: "Amador's Song"
The lady that Amador loves prefers another. He sings his secret feelings as he watches her and the other man sail away in a ship. All he has left are the three horses they were riding, and the knowledge that he helped save her life.

Amador’s Song
© 2007 Michele Fairbairn
Another century,
Another time,
Then, maybe you
Would be all mine,
And our arms
We would entwine.
But, my love for you
Is too deep
For mere words
To define.
Another century,
Another time,
Then, maybe you could see
Into my soul,
And accept me
As a whole.
But, for now I’m left with nothing but
These horses three
For my only
Company.
Yet, I’d do it all again,
If you needed me,
For, protecting you
May be the most
Blessed thing
I’ll ever do.
And, as I watch
Your ship leave the bay
That the Spaniards call
Monterey,
And, in another’s arms
You sail away.
Yet, there’s one thing more
I wish I could
Say.
Stay.
And, from a ship
Far away
A heart sang back
Just to say,
“Stay safe,
Amador.”
