From the recording The Word Is Love
Track 13: "The Cowboy's Code"
A reminder that we Westerners have morals and a code of ethics too. "Blessed are the peacemakers". We humans need to respect each other and make peace, before we destroy our planet and each other.

The Cowboy’s Code

I don’t mind if you read your Quran
I understand
It’s a Holy Book.
But, before you wipe me from God’s plan,
Why don’t you give me a closer look?
You see, out West, we old cowpokes and cow gals
Have a Holy Book and code of our own.
Mama said,
“Cowboys, they don’t fuss,
And, son, don’t you ever cuss,
Just say,Yup and nope.”
She said,
“Remember always, while there’s life, there is hope.”
She said,
“Two wrongs don’t ever make a right.
It often takes more courage to walk away than fight.
And, never kick a man when he is down.”
She said,
“Always leave a place better than it was found,
And never kick a man when he is down.”
Jesus said,
“Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy.”
“Blessed are the peacemakers for they’re the children of God.”
“The children of God.”
So, let’s reconsider the paths that we have trod
Let’s leave this planet a better place for God.
Let’s turn things around,
Leave earth better than it was found.
Let’s leave this planet a better place for God.
Let’s roll up our sleeves
For the good deed,
Put away all hate and greed.
Let’s learn to love
More like God above.
Let’s leave this planet a better place for God.
Now, I wonder how God could have love us
So very, very much,
To have put us on this planet
With trees, and flowers,
Birds, and water, and such.
Why, he could have just dumped us
In one of those stars,
And watched us burn.
When will we ever learn,
How to love
More like God above?
And, I wonder, and I speculate,
Will we let fear, or greed, or hate,
Seal our fate?
Or, will we save this planet, so dear?
I, for one, want to stay right here.
But, I’ve heard them say there might be life on Mars.
But, let’s get real, folks.
How many of us really want to move up there?
I, for one, want to stay right here.
So,
I don’t mind if you read your Quran
I understand
It’s a Holy Book.
But, before you wipe me from God’s plan,
Why don’t you give me a closer look?
You see, out West, we old cowpokes and cow gals

Let’s leave this planet a better place for God.
Let’s save our Earth
From Mars’ dearth.
Let’s get it together,
Work things out,
Leave this planet a better place for God.
For God . . .
For God . . .
